Blondie Joyce Amar Hopson

Blondie Joyce Amar-Hopson, 80, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of Brooklyn, New York, died at her home. Visitation at Hall Davis and Sons, 1160 Louisiana Ave., Port Allen, LA, on Monday April 5, 2021 from 3-5 pm. Religious Service at Immaculate Conception, 12369 Hwy. 416, Lakeland, LA at 2 pm. Internment in Chenal Cemetery, Lakeland. She leaves to mourn 5 children: three daughters, Janice M. Ricard, Dr. Lisa N. VanHolt and Frances E. Cuevas, Esq.; two sons, John M. Ricard and Frank R. Hopson. She has 6 grandchildren, Angelique Ricard, Blonshe Katz, Isabella VanHolt, Lukas VanHolt, Amar Cuevas and Gabriel Cuevas. She leaves two brothers, Alvin Amar RT and Dr. John Amar; nieces, Elena Amar, Lena Martinez, Barbara Amar, Lauryn Amar, Shirley Richard and Sheila Meyer; nephews, Ronald Amar and Christopher Amar; Goddaughters Angela Amar-Richard and Terri Wells; a host of grandnieces and grandnephews and her best friend Odessa Richardson. Blondie Amar-Hopson attended school at St. Francis Xavier in Baton Rouge, received her B.A. from Southern University (1970) in Elementary Education, M.A. from Howard University (1971) in Guidance Counseling, and Traumatic Brain Injury Certification from Hunter College (1998). She retired from the New York City Department of Education after 37 years of dedicated service to Special Education and the emotionally handicapped. Even in retirement she continued to provide early intervention services to infant children for over a decade. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michel Amar and Lena Robert Amar; brothers Dr. Leroy Amar, Alfred Amar, David Amar; sisters Lucille Cochran and Shirley Amar.
