Lois Ray Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on August 7, 2013. She was born in White Castle on November 27, 1940 and was a native of Port Allen. She graduated Port Allen High School in 1959. She was a resident of the Grace Health & Rehab Center in Slaughter for the last 2 years where she fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She will be greatly missed. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Annette Gonzales and husband Mark and Rachelle Munson and husband Rusty, son Willis "Billy" Ray and wife Patricia, brother RJ Loupe, Jr. and wife Katherine, sister Stella Landry and husband Blackie, granddaughter Amillia Munson Hasselbeck and husband Travis, grandsons Willie Munson and Luke Ray, great-granddaughter Bailee Hasselbeck, a host of nieces and nephews, and two girls very dear to her heart, Angie Varnado and Marguerite Durio. She was preceded in death by her husband Willis "Bill" Ray, parents Raoul Sr. and Virgie Loupe, brothers Alton Loupe, Sr. and Gerald Loupe, nephews Greg Landry and Randy Loupe, and sister-in-law Rita Loupe. She loved her family and was a mother figure to many children in her extended family. She was a loving caregiver to her parents for many years. She was the drive-thru teller at the Bank of West Baton Rouge for 15 years. She loved working in her yard and tending to her plants and flowers. She enjoyed traveling and especially loved her trips to Alaska to visit her daughter's family while stationed at Fort Wainwright. She loved lighthouses and proudly climbed the 203 steps to the top of the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse in FL. She loved cats and will be missed by her cat Smokey and her grand-dogs Ralphie & Suzie. She enjoyed visits to Charlie's Place Respite Center at the Alzheimer's Services in Baton Rouge. Many thanks to the staff of the Grace Health & Rehab Center who took such loving care of her and the physicians who cared for her over the years, Dr. Reagan Elkins, Dr. Bryan Bienvenu, Dr. Brian Murphy, Dr. Michael Morgan, Dr. Lance Fallin and Dr. Ashley Record. Visiting will be at Wilbert Funeral Home in Port Allen on Friday, Aug 9th, 5 to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Rev. David Allen. Entombment at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery in Brusly. Pallbearers will be Jericho Loupe, Jason Loupe, Geremie Loupe, Rusty Loupe, Bubby Loupe and Willie Munson. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Landry and Jerry Torres. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
