Salinas
Jose L. De La Cruz, known to friends as "Joe" and "Coach," passed away on October 4, 2017, at the age of 52 years, after a long battle with cancer. Joe was born on January 2, 1965, in Sanger, CA, to Jose Luis De La Cruz Sr. and Delia Longoria.
He grew up in Sanger, CA and graduated from Sanger High School. In 1992, he married Irma Torres, in Sanger, CA. In the same year, he moved to Salinas, CA, to pursue a new career.
In 1992, he began his law enforcement career with Monterey County Sheriff's Department. After nine years, he moved to San Jose Police Department. He served in law enforcement from 1992-2013.
Joe is survived by his wife of 25 years, Irma De La Cruz, daughter Victoria De La Cruz, mother Delia Torres, father Jose Luis De La Cruz Sr., sisters Nelda Gonzales, Patty Torres, Mayra Ramirez, brother George De La Cruz. Joe will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Joe was surrounded by thoughtful and loving friends and family who provided him with the care and compassion he deserved.
A Celebration of Joe's life will be held at 12 noon, on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 E Alisal St, Salinas, CA, with Chaplain Jim Becknall officiating.

I think of Irma and Victoria often since Jose's passing.....Jose left a successful and powerful legacy in the upbringing of his awesome daughter, Victoria.....he lives on through her and will never be forgotten....
Victoria will always be one of my "Hall of Fame" students, and Jose will always be remembered as one of this teacher's all time favorite parents of a 45 year career....

Dear Irma and Victoria,
I have so many fond memories of Jose over the years. I especially appreciate how supportive he was to me in all of my projects, always willing to help at my many events. Such a great father to Victoria, always wanting the best for her...he showed such great interest in her performances and music recitals, sports, etc. It was a privilege to be Victoria's teacher and Jose's friend. My deepest sympathy for the loss of such a great man...he will be sincerely missed and never forgotten in the hearts of all who knew him.

Joe it deeply saddens me to know you are gone. I have very fond memories as kids when your dad would take us all out on weekend adventures for cousin fun. Sadly, I cannot attend your services today. You and your family are in my prayers and I know you are now with God and no longer suffering. I hope your dad, mom, wife, kids and brothers and sisters find comfort in this. Rest in peace Joselio.

Although I didn't know Jose, I just wanted to express my condolences to his friends and family. May you find comfort in knowing that your dear Jose is safe in the memory of God, who will remember every detail about him and bring him back again.

Hi Irma, Its only right I light a candle here. I was always lighting candles at church for Joe. I will continue to do so.
