Phillip Lum Obituary
Philip Lum, 70, of Salinas, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010. He was born August 31, 1939 in San Francisco.
Philip, a graduate of University of California at Berkeley, was a forensic scientist at the CA Department of Justice Crime Lab in Watsonville for 20 years where he testified against DUI cases on behalf of the State of California.
He was an active man who loved volunteering, music, art, & cultural events. As a young man, he loved to ski and run marathons. In his later years, he traveled, learned Taiko with the Watsonville Taiko Club, took Tai Chi classes in Salinas, and played ping pong at the Salinas Chinese Association.
He was a member of Toastmasters International and the American Board of Criminalistics.
He is survived by his wife, Assunta Lee; son, Anthony Lee; daughter, Sabrina Lee; son-in-law, Shaun Tan; granddaughter, Kylie Tan; as well as brothers and sisters in the Bay Area.
Private Memorial: At sea will be held by the family.

I worked with Phil in Salinas in 1985 when I was a new criminalist with DOJ. He was a great teacher and a good friend. I am saddened to hear of his passing. Phil was a good man, and I was fortunate to have known him.

Phil, in 1970 a coworker in Alameda. In 1974, we moved on to DOJ in Salinas. Phil was always more than a co-worker, he was a guide over the "bumps", a model of knowledge and professionalism. And foremost, always a man who cared for other. I am saddened at his passing, but will always carry his teaching with me to my last days. May he always live in the hearts of his family and friends.
