Thomas Hall Obituary
IN LOVING MEMORY
THOMAS JAMES HALL
Thomas James Hall was born on August 4, 1947 to Harold and Margaret Hall in Los Angeles, California, and died on February 15, 2024 at the age of 76, in Avalon, California. Tom was one of thirteen children. He grew up in Temple City, California and attended St. Luke's Catholic grammar School from 1st thru 8th grade along with his 12 siblings. Tom attended Bishop Amat High School for 2 years and then transferred to Temple City High School, where he graduated in 1965. He went on to attend Woodbury College in 1966.
Tom had fond memories of spending summers in Avalon, diving for coins tossed by visitors from the great White Steamer and swimming in the water near the green Pleasure Pier. At an early age Tom earned money selling newspapers and carrying tourist's luggage in a little red wagon with the Hall name on the back.
In 1967 Tom was drafted into the United States Army and spent his military time in north Carolina and Alaska. Tom met Diane Lannom shortly after returning from Alaska. They were married and Tom became the proud father of his son, Brandon. In 1978 Tom and his family moved to oregon, lived on the rogue river, and Tom worked for the Corp of engineers. In 1982 he moved back to California and began working for his brother Terry at Commercial Office Supply in Westminster and Placerville, California. In 1987 he permanently moved to Avalon, California, located on beautiful Santa Catalina Island. In the 1980's Tom helped coach basketball in the Avalon Pee Wee Basketball Program with his brother Steve and played softball in the Avalon Men's and Coed Softball Leagues throughout the decade. He was instrumental in forming the Hall Family Softball Team, challenging the local Avalon Teams in some games for the ages.
Tom was a "Jack of All Trades". He worked for the Avalon Harbor Department, painted houses with Chip Upton, worked for Southern California edison, the Santa Catalina Island Company, and as a bartender at many of the local restaurants and taverns. For many years he worked at JL's Locker room for Bill Leonhardi where he perfected his bartending skills and showed off his talent at the game of pool. He then went on to work for the Catalina Island Golf Course. After putting in a shift at the course Tom loved to go out and play for a little money with all of his younger amigos who simply referred to him as "viejo".
one of the biggest highlights of Tom's life was when he became a grandfather. Declan Hall was born on September 22, 2017. Tom was spotted daily driving through town with Declan right by his side, listening to his Papa share his life stories. In February of 2023 Tom began residing at the Avalon Medical Center's residential Wing until his passing a year later.
Tom was deeply loved by all and will be sorely missed. He leaves behind his son Brandon and his wife Ashley, his beloved grandson Declan, his sisters Beverly Hall Alexander and georgina Hall Lenz, brothers Terry, Mike, Tim, Dan, Jim, rick, ed, and Steve. He is preceded in death by his father Harold Hall, mother Margaret Hall, brother-in-law rod Alexander, beloved partner JoAnne Kramer, niece Melissa Hall Bohinc, and brothers gregory and Patrick Hall.
Rest In Peace, We Love You Tom!
