Carol Sue Odle, 87, lived her entire life in New Castle. She was born September 5, 1935 to Scott and Mildred Matthew. Sue graduated from New Castle High School, married and started a family. After her first husband, John Phillip Evans died in 1960, she went to work for Dr. Calvin Steussy in the lab at the Henry County Clinic on Church Street. She worked her entire life in laboratories at Henry County Hospital and New Castle State Hospital. She retired from Henry County Hospital in 2012.
In the early 60's, Sue enjoyed ballroom dancing and took lessons at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Muncie. Her abilities at dance created an opportunity for her to travel to Europe with a dance group for exhibitions. She also enjoyed collecting antiques, knitting, needlepoint, reading and gardening. Her children were recipients of some of her hand-made projects. Camping and boating were always summer activities she enjoyed. Over the decades, her camping experiences started with tents and graduated to a motor home. For years, she had a chocolate-colored Poodle named Coco. When the grandchildren arrived, she was known to them as Grammy Coco. After her retirement, Daisy, her West Highland Terrier, became her beloved, constant companion.
Sue is survived by her husband of 57 years, Glen Odle and her children; Vickie Beeson, Jeff Evans (Pam), Joe Evans, Scott Evans (Alice), and Chris Odle(Christa). her stepchildren, Kerry Odle (Loretta), Kenton Odle, Michael Odle, Rick Odle and Kendra Odle; her grandchildren; Aimee Flynn (Kelli), Brook Flynn, Matthew Allen, Kyle Allen (Rachel), Jason Evans, Nathan Evans, Jonathon Evans (Trina), Tyler Evans, Miranda Greenwell (Tyler), Cory Odle (Toni), Micayla Cooley (Denver), Emily DeSabato (Patrick), Alexis Odle and Bryan Owens, Jason Wagner; 21 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.
