Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late James and Doris (LaMothe) Farrell.

Jim was active in the restaurant business all of his life. For many years, Jim was director of food services at the Mystic Seaport. He also served as vice-president of the Connecticut Restaurant Association and most recently a manager of Michael Jordan's Steakhouse Restaurant at the Mohegan Sun Casino.

Sailing was his passion. Jim captained numerous family summer adventures to nearby islands. He also enjoyed winter ski trips with those whom he was close to.

Besides his wife and children, he leaves two sisters, Kim Mazotas and her husband, Leo, of Marlborough and Lori Spranzo and her husband, Albert, of Colchester; his stepmother, Shirley Farrell of Stonington; a niece, Kristin Mazotas; five nephews, Matthew and David Mazotas and Stephen, Patrick, and Kenneth Spranzo; two stepbrothers, Sean Donahue and Colin Donahue and his wife, Wendy, and their children, Bridget and Olivia; and a stepsister, Erin Martley and her son, Liam, all of Stonington; and his beloved dog, Molly.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, 51 Williams Ave., Mystic. A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at St. Patrick Church, 32 East Main St., Mystic. Burial will be private.

My dear Julie,
My heart has been so heavy over the loss of your beloved "Jimmie". I know that God has you in his loving hands to help you through this tragedy. At best remember this:
To live in the hearts of those we leave behind.....
is not to die. May he live in your heart and your memory forever. If your need anything, anything at all, you know where to find me.
Affectionately,
Lee

My deepest sympathy to the Farrell family. I had the pleasure of working with Jim on the insurance program for the Connecticut Restaurant Association. Jim was always so kind and helpful and I very much enjoyed working with him. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Julia, and your family at this most difficult time.

Julie,

You probably don't remeber me and I did not know your Jimmie. But, I remember you from the DPI and I have continued being friends with Shirley and she told me how helpful your Jimmie had been when his father died. I am so very sorry for your loss, especially at such a young age.

Jim and I worked together at Flynn Management in Middletown. Jim used to make us all laugh - with his laugh - it was contagious! When we think of him, it will be laughing his head off in the corner office with his bud Bill. It never mattered what they were laughing at - it just made us laugh. May your own memories of Jim always bring you comfort. Barbara Kealey, Weatogue, CT

Julie - Dexter and I are so shocked by your unexpected tragedy. You have been such a wonderful friend to so many people in our little village of Noank. We were both lucky to have met your "Jimmie" at the bakery and found him every bit as charming as you are.

We will hold you and your children in our hearts and prayers. Anything we can do for you, just ask and it's yours.

With deepest sympathy,

Dexter and Maryanne Holaday

Please accept our deepest sympathies. Jimmie was a close friend of ours back when he lived in Wethersfield. We lost touch with him when his family moved away but have always kept him in our thoughts and conversations about our younger years. He was a great guy and a very good friend. You will be in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. Nancy (Civitillo) Ellis, Cathy (Laurie) Giuliano, Cindy (Laurie) Sullivan and Sue (Gaffey) Hulme.

My heart goes out to the Jimmie's family. I haven't see him since high school, but he always had a smile on his face and something funny to say. I am sure he continued his life in the same way. Bless all of you!
