Barney McGee Obituary
1941 - 2016
Barney McGee, a life-long resident of La Jolla California, was born at Mercy Hospital, San Diego CA, and passed peacefully of pancreatic cancer October 27, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a graduate of La Jolla High School and San Diego State University.
Barney was the son of the prominent San Diego physician, William Buster McGee M.D. and the dignified Priscilla Thompson McGee Abrate whose father, Barney Thompson, was editor of the Rockford Register Republic, Illinois newspapers.
Barney is survived by his daughter Seldom McBride of La Jolla and her three children; Julian, Noah and Pearl all of La Jolla CA. Barney also has a brother William Buster McGee of San Marcos CA with his son Terry and daughter Shauna Kinney and a sister Kathleen "Kay" McGee (Brown) of Palm Desert CA with her son Scott Brown, daughters Darcy Kendrick and Grace Page who survive him. Barney was pre-deceased by his former wife, Linda McGee.
Barney ran his company Baja Silk Screen for many years in La Jolla.
The words to describe this unique and brilliant person leaves one without words. To scratch the surface of this humorous and deep character is best left to the heavens. Barney leaves behind many sad people.

Barney McGee was a very good athlete and I can see him pole vaulting like a master , with or without the fiberglass pole, or with a bamboo pole. He was the best at athletics and no one would have been able to surpass him. RIP Barney

Barney and I pole vaulted together on the La Jolla High School track team during the late 1950s. He always vaulted higher since he was privileged to use the special fibreglass pole while I had to use the bamboo one. May he be resting in peace.

Barney was a friend of mine and many people in La Jolla. I have many fond memories of him and named my third son Barney. I hadn't seen Barney in a long time but he was someone you never forget.
