Aline Scasta Obituary

Aline Manthei Scasta

January 29, 1931 - August 22, 2023

Aline Manthei Scasta, age 92, of Bryan, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Aline, a lifelong resident of Brazos County, was born on January 29, 1931, in Kurten, Texas. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in Zion Church of Kurten.

Growing up, Aline's life centered around the farm. She knew what chopping cotton, picking cotton, and working the garden were all about – her family's way of life – and she continued her gardening and yard work through her 88th birthday. Aline attended school at Tabor until the 9th grade, then attended Lamar Jr. High and Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan. She married her life partner, Emil Scasta, in 1948, one semester before receiving her diploma. She and Emil were blessed with a son in 1951. They attended Zion Church of Kurten where she taught Sunday School. In 1966, they moved their letter to Faith United Church of Christ in Bryan where Aline sang in the choir and enjoyed the Women's Guild.

Aline worked for Bryan ISD for 25 years, starting in the cafeteria and then spending 18 years as the library aid at Milam Elementary. She always loved working with children. After retiring, Aline and Emil enjoyed many camping trips, especially with their grandchildren. Upon Emil's passing in 1992, Aline went back to school at age 62 to finish earning her diploma. She was the only graduate that day to be applauded by not only her children, but her grandchildren as well! She then began work at First Presbyterian Church of Bryan in the day care facility.

Aline was preceded in death by her husband, Emil "Paul" Scasta; her parents, Heady Jeske Manthei and Henry Manthei; great-granddaughters, Whitney and Megan Scasta; brothers and their spouses, Ludwig (Gladys), Alfred (Essie), and Edward (Vernice) Manthei; and special companions, Pat Ponzio and Jim Nichols. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Sharon Scasta; grandchildren, Steve and Brandi Scasta and Diane Scasta; great-grandchildren, Addisen and Charlotte Scasta; sister-in-law, Velma Manthei; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 26, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1515 S. College Ave., Bryan. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., also at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Kurten Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Crossroads Nursing & Rehabilitation and Hospice Brazos Valley for their loving and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Church of Christ (P.O. Box 4470, Bryan, TX 77805), Hospice Brazos Valley (502 W 26th St., Bryan TX 77803), or Kurten Cemetery Association (3534 N. FM 2038, Bryan, TX 77808).

We moved from Bryan in 1958 so I didn't see her all that often, but when we did she was glad we came by and always seemed to have a healthy zest for life. I was told she took care of me for maybe the first two weeks of my life.
My condolences to the family.

Aileen was a treasure to our family across the street on Colson Rd. And years later, my children also grew to love her. We are so thankful. David and Sharon, I am so very sorry. Memories of Aline will remain with me as long as I live.

As long as I had known her, she was always sweet and always picked on me a little bit. And I was OK with that. It was her way of showing me that she cared about me. I will miss our hugs every Sunday. She was always a pleasure to be around! I would bring her water or a blanket at church, when she was parched or cold. Most of the time she wouldn't ask for it but would always accept my gesture. In my eyes, she was a peach! I wish that I could have known her longer and better. The world needs more people like her! She will truly be missed but I am happy that she now is free of the earthly bonds and pain and discomfort and is in Heaven enjoying life everlasting! May you rest ever so peacefully my friend!!

Thoughts and prayers for the family. The world lost a very kind and sweet person that will be missed by many. I have only known her for about 10 years and it was great to have her as a friend for those years.

It was an honor for Gwen and me to know Aline as her pastor and as friends. She had a great sense of humor and really enjoyed life. We will miss her and wish our sympathies and blessings to her family and friends.
