John's ability to communicate, often in poetic words was a joy to those around him. His caring spirit shone through to light the darkness. He will be greatly missed.

I will greatly miss my Uncle John. Whenever we visited him and Aunt Evelyn, they treated us like kings and were so kind and hospitable. Highlights were our tours of the A & M campus, the delicious meals, Uncle John's recollections of WWII, and, of course, our discussions and debates about football. My first memory of Uncle John dates to August 1959, when I was 8. He and his family were visiting my grandparents in Carthage NY. My parents said I had to go with them to welcome these visitors from Texas. I did not want to--I wanted to watch the College All Star Football game and did not want to listen to adults talk all evening. But five minutes after I walked into my grandparents' house, Uncle John said: let's turn the TV on and watch the College All Star game! Bobby, I'll bet you're a football fan; come watch the game with me. Ha! I knew I had found a kindred spirit for life. And I had! He is part of that Greatest Generation, that is fading away before our very eyes.

So sorry John will not be here to hold you hand but he'll continue to hear your stories. He served his God, Country & Family and gave of himself to everyone who was lucky enough to shake his hand. As long as his family grows, John lives in all your hearts!

So sorry to read of my uncle's passing. Mom and I will miss him and his wonderfully written letters. We always enjoyed his visits to Bill and Geraldine's home in NY and the time we all got to spend together. I loved talking to him and the way he told a story. With all our love, Doris and Deanna
