Joe T. Miller, 80, of Bryan, Texas and formerly of Urbana, Illinois, Farmington and Novi, Michigan, and Sarasota, Florida, died March 6, 2006 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, Texas.
He was born November 14, 1925 in Danville, Illinois to Oscar Francis Miller and Irene (Snyder) Miller. He attended school in Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Infantry in Europe from Italy to Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star for his work in keeping communication lines open during the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed by the Champaign-Urbana New-Gazette, the San Antonio Express-News, and the New Orleans Item, and retired in 1982 as news editor of the Detroit Free Press.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Margaret (Hyde) Miller, a sister, Judith Parsons of Modesto, California, and four daughters and sons-in-law: Mary Miller and Mike Swallow of Oakfield, Maine, Barbara and Gary Staniszewski of Shelby Township, Michigan, Katherine Miller and James Stiff of College Station, Texas, and Ann and Gary Anderson of Covington, Washington. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Katherine Staniszewski of San Rafael, California, Daniel Staniszewski of Albion, Michigan, Samantha Anderson and Monika Anderson of Covington, Washington, and Kalena Miller of College Station, Texas.
There will be no services. Cremation arrangements are being made by Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan, Texas. Memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity.
