Michael J. Cross, age 74, a longtime resident of Plainfield, IL, passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2022. He was born on September 21, 1948 in Chicago, IL.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Debbie (nee Mravic); his beloved daughters, Amy England of Plainfield, IL and Becky Gomez of Plainfield, IL; his cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn England, Cody England, Hailey (fiancé Christian Knutson) Gomez, Jacob England, Ana Gomez, Madison Gomez and Matthew England; his adored great-grandchildren, Grayson England, Memphis England, Wyatt Knutson; as well as a lifetime of wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Topole and his stepfather, Harry Topole; and his special granddaughter, Chloe England.
Mike joined the Naperville Police Department in June of 1970 and retired in May 2008 as Detective. He distinguished himself in investigations by working on and solving some of the most complex violent crime cases. He was also a longtime Plainfield Police Commissioner. Mike was a dedicated member of the Plainfield Moose Lodge and proudly served as Governor. A proud American, he was a member of the Plainfield American Legion Riders and Sons of the AmericanLegion.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, October 9, 12:00 Noon until 3:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield. A Celebration of Mike's life will follow at 3:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Andrew O'Neal officiating. Sending my deepest sympathies to the Cross family. I know many of my parents´ happy memories included all of the fun Harley events over the years. Hopefully dad and Mike are sharing fun riding stories with our other fallen riders. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
