John Anderson Obituary

John Carmi Anderson, 66, Columbus, passed away peacefully at 6:39 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, at the Indiana Masonic Home (Compass Park) in Franklin, with his family by his side. He courageously battled Parkinson's Disease for over 13 years, never complained, and was always optimistic of finding a cure.

John was born Nov. 25, 1956, in Monticello, the son of Wayne Carmi and Mary Lou Krintz Anderson. He graduated from Twin Lakes High School in 1975. John went on to attend Purdue University and graduated with a BS in Landscape Architecture and became a Property Manager for Hanover College and more recently for Grandview Lake. He was also a school board member for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation for 11 years. John loved making decisions to help all children.

John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lois D. (Mills) Anderson, daughter, Hannah (Brian) Newlin, Greenwood; son, Samuel Carmi Anderson, Tampa, Fla.; grandson, Harvey Houston Newlin; siblings, Mary Kathryn (Roger) Maxwell, David (Janie) Anderson, and Tom Anderson. He had 17 nieces and nephews and 28 great-nieces and nephews. John dearly loved each and every one of them.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kerry Anderson.

John loved the Lord, first and foremost, followed by his family and extended family. He was an avid golfer and fan of the sport, playing a few holes up until his recent illness. John also loved water skiing especially on Grandview Lake. He found much enjoyment painting with watercolors and playing euchre. John never met a stranger and had a love for people. His smile and laughter was contagious. He recently became a proud grandpa and cherished his short time with grandson, Harvey. John will be deeply missed by those that met, knew, and loved him.

A special thank you to John's neurologists, Dr. John Winnikates and Dr. Dawn Zapinski. Many, many heartfelt thanks for the amazing staff at Compass Park: Nurse practitioners, Jolynne Anderson and Donna Gentle as well as nurses: Jenn, Rachel, and Jess and nursing assistants: Kaitlyn and Anthony. Your care, compassion. encouragement, and love for John will hold a special place in our hearts.

In keeping with the family's request, cremation will take place and a celebration of life service will be held for John on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church of Columbus with Pastor Steve Yeaton officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, Dec. 1 from 2 - 6 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at Pleasant Run Cemetery in Delphi.

We were all so very saddened by John's passing. The Purdue memories that I have of John are priceless and I always smile when I think of meeting him for the first time at the dining commons in Owen Hall. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Lois, and your entire family.
With Love,
John and Marianne Parker
