Connie Willems Obituary

Mission, Texas - Connie Faye Willeford Willems went to be with our Lord in the early hours on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Connie was born in October of 1943 to Eddie Lawson (Ted) Willeford and Mamie Lee Willeford in Elgin, Texas. They moved to Mission when Connie was five. As a child, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Mission. She graduated from Mission High School in 1962.

Later that year, Connie married the love of her life, Gordon Leonard Willems. They have two daughters Melissa Lea (Oscar) Martinez and Melinda Jill Willems (James Sanchez). Throughout their married lives they were active members at Conway Avenue Baptist Church where they made many lifelong friends. Connie and Gordon were married for 59 years.

Connie worked for Mission Jr High for 19 years. She retired to help take care of her most precious gifts...her grandchildren. Neenee loved her grandchildren. She was a regular sight at any of their schools, dropping off forgotten assignments, jackets, lunches, or doing pickup when she was called upon. Neenee was at every game, pageant, practice, or activities her grandchildren were participating in. Gordon and Connie were active members of Faith Baptist Church in Mission.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Mamie Lee Willeford, her brother Dean Willeford, her sister in law Janice Willeford, and her first born daughter, Lynn Denise Willems.

She is survived by her husband, Gordon Leonard Willems, daughters Missye (Oscar) Martinez and Mindye Willems (James Sanchez). Seven grandchildren: Morgan Leandra (Caleb) Villarreal; Keely Shea (Armando) Alvarado; Moriah Lanae (Victor) Navarro; Hayley Jo (Alex) Rodriguez; Hannah Jade Davis; Mykenzie Larayne Martinez; and Zachary Skye Davis.

She is also survived by three great grandchildren Mia Loren Navarro; Mila Leandra Villarreal; and Ethan Crew Alvarado.

Pall bearers are Zachary Davis, Mando Alvarado, Alex Rodriguez, Caleb Villarreal, Victor Navarro, and Nathan Olivarez.

Neenee will be dearly missed by all who loved her and knew her.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022, from 4-7 at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. A service will be held, Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 11:30am at Faith Baptist Church in Mission, Texas with burial to follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen 1pm.

I was a teacher at Mission Jr. High when Connie was there. Such a lovely person. Warm and friendly and always a professional. In later years, we would meet and she radiated with love when she spoke of her girls and grandchildren. It was a pleasure to know her. My condolences to her family.
