Roy Connor Obituary
Roy graduated from Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis in 1957. He received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Tulsa where he was a U.S. Air Force ROTC cadet and a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Following college, he joined the Air Force as a 1st Lt. and was stationed with the SAC in Minot, North Dakota as a base housing officer supporting the base's missile site silos. After his discharge, he joined Firestone Industrial Products in Noblesville IN. In 1969, he was transferred to the Newport TN plant as Accounting Manager for 10 years. He returned to Noblesville in 1979 and retired from Firestone in 2005, marking his 40th year with the company.
Roy is survived by Jean, his wife of 34 years; his brother John D. (Mary) Connor, Bristol TN; his four daughters Deborah Connor (Steve Brumbaugh), McLean, VA, Susan Joseph (Anthony), Orlando, FL, Jennifer Owens (Jay), Dallas TX and Melissa Hampton (David), Vernon Hills IL, and stepson Jason (Danyil) Peek, Sheridan IN. He was blessed to enjoy his thirteen grandchildren and great-grandson.
Roy was an avid golfer, achieving the elusive hole-in-one in 2018. He played with the Firestone Golf Club, the 91st Christian Church golf group and his Texas Trails Resort golfing buddies. He was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan attending several races, especially at his favorite track in Bristol, TN with his brother. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, McAllen, TX. Roy was a servant at heart and enjoyed volunteering in his community. On most Friday nights you could find Roy and Jean enjoying a country band at their community hall, as he Texas two-stepped in his favorite cowboy boots.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, November 4th at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 2001 Freddy Gonzalez Dr., McAllen.
