Alexander Kuhr Obituary

Alexander Harold Kuhr Alexander Harold Kuhr passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at Mason General Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born in Olympia, Washington on March 13, 1926, to Anna Maria and Gustav Kuhr. Following the early death of his father, Alex became a baker at the age of 13 in order to help financially support his mother. He joined the navy three years later and served honorably on the blimp crew, and as a cook at the Coos Head Naval Facility in Coos Bay, Oregon. Alex was accepted to the Dunwoody Institute of Baking in Chicago, Illinois; however, plans changed due to health reasons and he began working at Simpson Timber Company, first in the research lab and then working his way up through Mills 1, 2, 3 and 4. He became a saw filer and retired out of the McCleary Door Plant. An active member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Alex served as a trustee, elder, usher, and on the altar guild. He was also a little league baseball coach, Boy Scout troop leader, mountain climber, and private plane pilot. An outdoorsman and hunter, Alex enjoyed a longtime membership at the Shelton Rifle and Pistol Club. Preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Idadell; son, Frank; daughter-in-law, Linda; and daughters, Alexis, April, and JoAnn. A celebration of Alex's life will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 206 East Wyandotte Avenue in Shelton, Washington on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by a graveside service at Shelton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Mount Olive Lutheran altar guild flower fund or the Mount Olive Lutheran School.
