John Mathews Obituary

GRAMPIAN - John R. "Bob" Mathews III, 87, of Grampian, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025 at his home.

He was born Nov. 20, 1937, the son of Robert L. and Martha Elizabeth "Betty" (Allison) Mathews.

Bob retired from PennDOT in Hyde after 36 years as a laborer.

Bob was an avid turkey hunter, even making it out for his final season this past for Spring for Spring Gobbler. He was very proud of the 63 turkey he bagged through the years. His biggest enjoyment was family, hunting, outdoors and his camp. He looked forward to the hunting trips to New York with family.

He played baseball for the Grampian Giants and other local teams in his younger years. He also enjoyed country music, especially going to hear his niece, Heather Olson-Desmitt, perform.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Robin Lumadue and husband William of Mahaffey, and Alison Logan and husband John of Grampian; three grandsons, Branden Logan of DuBois, Rance Logan of Grampian, and Colt Logan of Clearfield; and three great-grandsons, Dominick Logan, Zayn Logan, and Eli Logan; four sisters, Delores Beck and husband Dave of Weedville, Myrtle "Do Do" Fye of N.Y., Carol Turner and husband Howard of Curwensville, Kay Clinton and companion Rod Murphy of Brogue; and a brother, Ronald "Ronnie" Mathews of Grampian.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Karen "Kay" Mathews on May 1, 2023, whom he wed Oct. 24, 1959. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence "Butch" Mathews.

Honoring Bob's wishes, there will be no public services. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.

Interment will be in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Grampian.

Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield is in charge of the arrangements.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Grampian-Penn-Bloom Volunteer Fire Co., 251 Main St., Grampian, PA 16838; or UPMC Children's Hospital, 4401 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.

Bobby , my first cousin, was always soft spoken and friendly. Since moving to NJ i only saw him at family reunions but he always had a smile and pleasant hello. He was
Soft spoken and a gentleman. He looked so much like his dad, my uncle Robert.
My condolences to his daughters, grandchildren and sisters and Ronnie.
Rest in peace, Bobby.
