Mildred Wood Obituary

Dec. 23, 1923 - Oct. 8, 2014

Mildred Gladys Wood, aged 90, died in her Vacaville home on Oct. 8. Mildred was born on Dec. 23, 1923 in San Francisco, Calif., the daughter of Marcus L. Marquardsen (nicknamed Frank) and Myrtle M. Levy.

Mildred was an avid swimmer in her youth and enjoyed sports and playing softball.

She was a good student and proudly graduated Girls High School in June of 1942.

She married the love of her life, Hugh Forest Wood, whom she called "Jack" on May 27, 1942. He was a native of Indianapolis, Indiana. Jack and Mildred settled in San Francisco after his discharge from the army, where they raised their family.

Mildred worked for 20 years as a Civil Servant and rose to the highest level of advancement before retiring in 1983. She was known for her positive spirit and ability to always find something to smile about.

Mildred is survived by daughters, Diane R. Brambila, Jill C. Marchant, Bonnie M. Wells and Elaine H. Wood; son-in-law, Dennis A. Wells; grandchildren, Alan and Paul Wells, Lisa Cherry, Roberto and Juan Brambila; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grand children, and four-legged companion, Rochester and Pretty Girl the cat.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12 from 9 to 11 a.m., at Vaca Hills Chapel, 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville CA.
