Stephen Amphlett Obituary

Stephen Thomas Amphlett, son of Jack and Mary Lou Amphlett, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2021. He was born on April 26, 1951 in Vallejo and was a lifelong Vacaville resident and local businessman. He followed in his father's footsteps and for 30 years he owned and operated Amphlett's Interiors, a family business since 1958. Stephen was a hard worker, open for his customers six days a week. His Amphlett's van was a common sight around town and he always had a friendly wave for everyone. When he wasn't working he was usually reading, or watching the History Channel, National Geographic, or sports, especially the 49ers. He enjoyed theater and was a member of the VAL players, a local community theater group. He played and managed the famed "Buffalo Chips" softball team. Stephen also enjoyed woodworking, making gifts for his family. Stephen was well liked by everyone who met him. He had a warm smile and boisterous laugh. Family gatherings, birthdays and holidays were special times for him. He was the favorite cousin, playful and fun, and always gave the best gifts. Stephen was a 1969 Vaca High graduate and was involved in organizing many class reunions. Most importantly, Stephen was a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He will forever be in our hearts. Stephen is survived by his siblings, Cathy Amphlett; John Amphlett (Susan); Mary Jane Scannell (Peter); nine nieces and nephews and many cousins. Services will be private and contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.

SAD TO HEAR, GREAT FREND AND WORKING PARTERN

Marilynn Anderson

July 9, 2021

A friend told me that Steve had passed on, and I was sad as I remembered his smile and welcomes when I visited his store on Main Street, in Vacaville's old downtown. I once asked him about his family tree, and with his sister Cathy's input, too, I made a mini tree for him. I'm a genealogist, so this was fun for me, and in the quest to find his ancestors, I discovered that Steve is my cousin. How happy I am to hold onto that relationship, and I am looking forward to seeing him again "on the other side." He was a great guy who was generous and kind and loved Vacaville. I am sure he is missed by many who knew him as family, a friend, a customer, and as a co-worker. We are so glad we knew you, Steve!

Will miss seeing him sitting outside of his store taking a break. Always had a great smile.

Saddened to hear this. Steve was "one o the good ones". Always a smile and a kind word - he will be missed.

How sad I am to learn of Steve´s passing. I wondered about him often after he closed his store.
Steve was always a gentleman and I loved his sense of humor! Always smiling. Always light hearted.
I and many others will miss him.
