Herbert York Obituary
MUNCIE - Herbert Ray York, 77, of Muncie, passed away on Saturday October 3, 2015 at Signature Healthcare, Muncie.
Born on July 29, 1938 in Davidson, Tennessee, he was the son of Arthur D. And Hazel L. (Whited) York.
Herbert attended the Jamestown, Tennessee schools. On January 19, 1957 he married Helen Dolores Winningham. He has been an area resident since 1965.
Herbert was employed at Ball State University, where he worked in the Student Center as a Custodial Group Leader for twenty-seven years, until his retirement in 2000.
He was a founding member of the Serenity Club of Muncie. Herbert enjoyed watching drag racing, going to flea markets, and spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always made it a point to attend all Grandparents Day events as well.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Helen York of Muncie; son, Jerry York of Muncie; daughters, Jacqueline (Dean Masterson) Marlow of Crossville, TN, Susan (Larry) Burke, and Rebecca (Tim) Weir, both of Muncie; grandchildren, Sean, Melissa, Jeremy, Justin, Jesse, and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Matt, Kyzer, Kelsie, Kaylie, Noah, Maleigha, Jordan, Lenox, Jace, Maci, and Peyton; brother Jesse (Jewel) York of Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bessie Swafford and Dessie York; brothers, Cecil, James, Roy, and Scotty York, and a granddaughter, Laura.
Funeral services for Herbert will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday October 8, 2015 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. SR 3, Muncie.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday October 7, 2015 and from 12-1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie.
Memorial contributions in memory of Herbert may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous.
