Michael Alexander Obituary

Michael "Mick" Alexander

Muncie - Michael "Mick" Alexander passed away June 14, 2017, fighting to the very end surrounded by his family.  The doctors and nurses were grateful the family was there to help calm him and translate his very colorful verbiage.

Mick was very passionate in the way he lived his life.  One of his more popular quotes was "It's all about how you move through the world when life happens to you."

He was born in Marion, IN on December 31, 1946, to Basil and Ruth Alexander.  He graduated from Marion High School where he held numerous sports records in baseball, football, and basketball.  He graduated from Ball State University and went on to graduate from the I.U. School of Law.

He graduated from Marion High School where he held numerous sports records in baseball, football, and basketball.  He graduated from Ball State University and went on to graduate from the I.U. School of Law.

In addition to being an accomplished attorney in Muncie, IN for over 43 years, he was also a civil rights activist.  He fought for racial equality for over 55 years.  He was instrumental in improving racial equality in Delaware County during the eight years he served as Delaware County Prosecutor.   He was very active in politics and over the years he belonged to many local organizations.

Mick was also dedicated to martial arts.  He was a 3rd degree black belt in Okinawa Shorin-ryu Karate.  He taught karate for over 10 years at the Akari-Ki Dojo in Muncie.

He met his wife of 44 years, Etta Alexander, in college.  During his final days, he was quoted as saying "I am very happy in my life right now, because Etta and I have laughed and become closer than ever".    They had two children; Simile Alexander Miller (Michael) and Austin Alexander.  He had five grandchildren; Coen Townsend, Brooklyn Miller, Nolan Alexander, Jessica Alexander and Alara Miller; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert "Bob" Alexander (Lee); his great aunt, Kay Glass (Dick); and three sisters- in-law, Shelly Cummins, Lynn Adams-Landon (Brock) and Diane Akert (Walt).

The family would also like to acknowledge Crisanne Nolley, who is very much a part of Mick's family.  For the last 25 years, Crisanne has been one of the key translators of Mick's colorful verbiage and passionate attitude.  She has been a wonderful support to not only Mick but also his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at High Street United Methodist Church, 219 S. High Street, Muncie.

Mick & I grad'd Marion High, class of '64. And then we lost track of each other. One day, Mick and a fellow Delaware Co deputy walked into the McDonalds in Muncie where I was working part time. He was in uniform and I was floored, as he was with me in the McDucks uniform. He told me he was getting ready to go to law school and asked if I needed a "real job". I did. Mick went to law school, his friend went into the Marines and I went to Delaware Co PD. 40 + years later in law enforcement, I have retired. I truly appreciated Micks' friendship. He was always kind and had a friendly word, if not joking, for everyone. Didn't know he had passed. He'll be missed. Take care, my friend.

May God give comfort and peace to Mick's family. Mick was a unique, passionate guy. The youngest in our MHS Class of '64, but a leader in all sports--quarterback, point guard and catcher. Even with all his activities, Mick was always trying to expand his experiences, like fencing-in his living room. Mom Alexander was not to happy with that activity. Mick was a loyal friend, but did things his way, like attending my wedding in central Illinois in 1971 arriving after the ceremony on his motorcycle. He was a guy that will not be forgotten.

Sorry to hear of Mick's passing. He was the youngest in the MHS Class of '64, but was a leader in all varsity sports--quarterback, point guard & catcher. He still found time to try out fencing in his living room. Mick was passionate in all he did, showing up a my wedding in June 1971, having ridden his motorcycle to Monticello, IL to give his regards. It sounds as though Mick retained that passion and loyalty.

I met Mick in 1972 and he helped me with his amazing ability with the law. I was blessed to have known and been advised by this man. May his family find comfort in knowing he is in a better place. Thank's Mick!

He was my best friend, mentor, book connoisseur, world renoun chef and so much more. He got me through the toughest time in my life, sharing books and books that he enjoyed like Wilber smith, Douglas Richards. Just being able to stop by any time of the day and he would sit and talk for hours with me, I do not know what to do now that he is gone it's as if part of me is lost forever. I will miss all the stories and knowledge you passed on to me and thankful for every second that I got to spend with you. Love you pal
