Columbia, South Carolina - Claretta Jones Sulton was born October 16, 1935, in West Columbia, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Theodore and Emma (Tillman) Jones, Sr. She was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 22, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Claretta was educated in the public schools of Lexington County where she attended Lakeview School in West Columbia. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Henry L. Sulton on November 10, 1950.
Claretta continued her education and earned her certification as a Nurse Technician where she was employed at Providence Hospital, Manor Care Nursing Home, and Baptist Hospital. Prior to her retirement, Claretta worked as a private duty nurse for Kimberly Quality Care.
Claretta was a faithful member of Turner Memorial A. M. E. Church where she served on the Stewardess Board and was Chairperson of the Women's Day Committee for five years.
Mrs. Sulton was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Dean Sulton; her brothers, Theodore, Jr., Willis (Billy) Douglas, Boyd (Grant) and George (Bay) Jones.
Those who will forever cherish Claretta's memories are her children, Henrietta Sulton of Charlotte, NC: Arthur (Velma) Sulton of Columbia, SC; Henry (Sarah) Sulton, Jr. of Blythewood, SC; Anthony Sulton of Sumter, SC; and Sandra L. Sulton of Columbia, SC; her brother, Charles E. (Mary) Jones of Lexington, SC; her sister-in-law, Leora Sulton of New Haven MI; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchild; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, a special friend and other loving relatives and dear friends.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Turner Memorial AME Church, West Columbia, South Carolina. Interment will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC. Condolences may be shared at Bosticktompkinsinc.com
