James Redfearn Obituary

CHESTERFIELD - James Inglis Redfearn, 77, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at his home in Chesterfield. He was born December 24, 1932, to William E. "Bill" Redfearn, Sr. and Sara Mangum Redfearn. He was married to Peggy Belk Griggs on August 18, 1954.
 
After graduating from Chesterfield High School, Class of 1950, Jimmy attended The Citadel for two years before graduating in 1955 from The University of South Carolina, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Following his college graduation, he served as a cryptographer in the U.S. Army, Far East Command, Tokyo, Japan. After his discharge from service, he entered The University of South Carolina School of Law, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1960. Jimmy was admitted to the bar in U.S. District Court on April 20, 1960.
 
Jimmy, who practiced law in Chesterfield for nearly fifty years, served as president of the Chesterfield County Bar Association, resigning after twenty years in that capacity. He was a member of the Chesterfield Carolina Bank Advisory Committee and also a member of American Legion Post No. 74. Jimmy was a member of the Greater Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce and in 2009 received their highest award, the W.D. Craig Lifetime Service Award. He was also a charter member of Green River Country Club, where he had served on the Board of Directors. A life-long member of St. Paul United Methodist, he was a former member of the Administrative Board and had served as a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. Jimmy had a great love of travel, having visited more than twenty countries.
 
In addition to his wife, Peggy Griggs Redfearn, he is survived by his daughter, Sara Elaine Redfearn, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and a brother, William Edward Redfearn, Jr., of Cheraw, S.C.; and his maternal aunt, Laura Mangum Jordan, of Chesterfield, S.C. Jimmy was predeceased by his son, James Mark Redfearn, and a brother, William Coskrey Redfearn.
 
A service of Death and Ressurection to remember the life of James Inglis Redfearn will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 305 West Main Street, Chesterfield, with The Reverend Rebecca J. Huguley and Phillip C. Caulder, Jr. officiating. The burial will follow the service in Chesterfield Cemetery, one block from the church on West Boulevard. Visitation will be at the residence, located at 306 West Main Street, on Sunday, March 7, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
 
The family has requested that any memorial gifts be sent to one of the following or to a charity of one's choice: St. Paul United Methodist Church, 305 West Main Street, Chesterfield, SC 29709; Hospice of Chesterfield County, P.O. Box 293, Chesterfield, SC 29709; Cemetery Association of Chesterfield, P.O. Box 388, Chesterfield, SC 29709; or Paws and Claws, P.O. Box 386, Chesterfield, SC 29709.
