Patricia Brumfield Obituary

Dr. Patricia Williams Brumfield
December 5, 1952 - December 8, 2022
Columbia, South Carolina - Dr. Patricia W. Brumfield (Dr. Pat) was the heartbeat of our family and she spent her life taking care of all of us. She always had a smile on her face and a joke on her lips. Patricia never met a stranger and was always loving, kind, respectful, loyal and genuinely interested in the lives of those she loved. Her brightest stars were her grandchildren, and she always encouraged them to reach their highest potential.
Dr. Patricia W. Brumfield passed away peacefully with her family by her bedside on December 8, 2022.
Patricia was born in Columbia, SC, on December 5, 1952 to Ezekiel Dewitt Williams, Sr. and Elizabeth Scott Williams.
She attended South Carolina public schools, graduating from Spring Valley High School. Patricia earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Benedict College in 1975. She went on to receive her Master's in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina in 1978 and her PhD from Capella University in Training and Performance Improvement in 2012.
Patricia married her devoted husband, Nicholas, on June 2, 1975, and they had two children; Myron Antonio and LaShawna Nichole.
She always had a passion for learning and teaching others. Patricia began her career in education with GLEAMNS Human Resources Commission, where she served as Children Services Manager and Center Coordinator for ten years. In addition, she held various roles in the training and education field; Education Disability Planner at Voorhees College, Head Start Monitoring Support Contractor with Danya International, Inc and Training Technical Assistance Specialist for STG International INC. Patricia also served as the director of a four county Head Start program that provided services for over 700 children. At the time of her illness, Dr. Pat was an Adjunct Professor at Midland's Technical College.
Patricia poured her love into her community as a member of Central Baptist Church, where she mentored students who were planning to attend college, as well as performed community outreach and taught Sunday school.
Patricia was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister; Gwendolyn Fanning, three brothers: Verbus Williams, Patrick Gregory Williams and Ralph Foster.
Patricia is survived by her loving husband, Nicholas Brumfield; children, Myron (Nicki) Brumfield and LaShawna (Kedwrick) Washington; a brother, Ezekiel Williams; a former daughter-in-law, Velvet Alisha Brumfield; grandchildren: Brennen, Kennedy, Kyle, Grant, Tydes, and Alexis; and a host of relatives, including great-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. To the Brumfield family, my sincere condolences. I just learned of her passing today. I met Pat when she came to work at the Head start program here in Orangeburg. She was one of the finest HS directors that I had ever worked under. She was a woman of integrity, character, endurance and great strength. I used to love to hear her jokes. She was always a joy to be around. Pat was a true advocate for the children and families she served and a fierce enforcer of program policies and administration. What a tremendous lost. Love you forever Pat. Rest easy.
