Mr. Kelly died Tuesday, January 6, 2009. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Stephen Blake and Ola Watts Kelly. He retired as Kershaw County treasurer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Camden where he served as 5th grade Sunday School teacher, usher, greeter for many years and also taught Training Union. Mr. Kelly was a U.S. Marine veteran, having served with the 1st Marine Division Amphibs in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Kelly participated in the invasion of Okinawa. He was first married to the late Lillian Sowell Kelly.
Surviving are his wife, Pat Melton Kelly; daughter, Linda Kelly Webb of Lugoff; son, Stephen S. Kelly, Jr. (Beth) of Camden; step-sons, Allan Melton (Debbie) of Mars Hill, NC, Jim Melton (Brenda) of Camden, and Lee Melton (Nellie) of Shelton Laurel, NC; 15 grandchildren, Kelly Webb Lucas (Rock), Shannon Webb Wooten (Alan), Aimee Webb Lindler (Bill), Richard Allen Webb, Amanda Webb, Stephen S. Kelly, III (Kimberley), Travis Kelly, Lindsey Kelly, Molly Hubbard (Chase), Jennifer Clarke, Bill Melton (Christy), Ben Melton, Jimmy Melton (Marnie), Julie Orrin (David), and Otis Lee Melton (Christina); special grandfather to Abbie and Kay Clarke and Glenn Catoe (Leona); 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Eva Langley Campbell and Annie Blake McGuirt.
Serving as active pallbearers are Stephen Kelly, III, Travis Kelly, Richard Allen Webb, Jimmy Melton, Otis Lee Melton, Glenn Catoe, Gerald Sowell, and Charlie Hampton. All past members of Boy Scouts of America Troop 54 are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers.
