JERRY ELLIOTT
GODFREY — Jerry Carl Elliott, 81, went to be with the Lord peacefully with his family by his side at 8:56 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 22, 1933, in Alton, he was the son of Keith "Jim" and Bernice (Aulabaugh) Elliott.
He retired in June 1994 after 43 years of service as a journeyman machinist for Owens Illinois Machine Shop. He was a lifetime member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey and an honorary life member and a 3rd Degree member of the Godfrey KC Hall. Mr. Elliott was heavily involved with youth sports organizations as a founding member, president, and coach of Godfrey Khoury League, coach of American Legion Post 126 baseball teams.
He took much pride in his lawn and gardening skills. He was also very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He was an avid golfer and accomplished woodworker, sharing his craft with his family and many people as a token of his love. His faith and family were extremely important to him, and gatherings of family were highlights of his life. He helped to organize a regular gathering of the "Cuzzins Club" and always looked forward to having a meal and sharing stories. For birthday and special holiday occasions, he only asked for donations for one of his favorite causes, which he would match, and donate, to the Crisis Food Center in Alton.
On August 16, 1952, he married the former Marlene Schott in Alton. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before her death on Feb. 10, 2003.
Surviving is a daughter, Nancy Pulizos (Greg), four sons, Bradley Elliott and his companion Kimberly Ruby, Barry Elliott (Carol), Brian Elliott (Marie), and Jerry "Blaine" Elliott; grandchildren, Brian Shane (Molly), Matthew Joseph (Amanda), Heather Brown (Chris), Lisa Sidwell (Jay), Sarah Stover (Paul), and Jeremy Elliott (Niki Jo), great-grandchildren, Emily and Ali Sidwell, Violet Stover, Jackson and Samantha Elliott, Ava, Layla and Asher Elliott, Lauren Elliott, and soon-to-be Josie Elliott. Also surviving is a brother, Michael Elliott (Sally), his special companion, Charlene Rush, and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Jerry Wickenhauser will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Alton.
