Alfred Lefkowski Obituary

Alfred J. Lefkowski, 89, of Dickson City and Moosic Lake died Wednesday evening in the Hospice Unit at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Hricko. They had been married 68 years.

Born in Dickson City, son of the late Benjamin and Bridget Kobashko Lefkowski, he was a member of St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. He was a 1943 graduate of Dickson City High School, and received a B.S. in business from the University of Scranton. He was employed by Prudential Insurance Co., Newark, N.J., and later by Scranton Grinder Co., Scranton. He served with the Navy during World War II aboard the submarine USS Bumper. He was a member of American Legion Post 665, Dickson City, and the Dunmore YMCA.

Surviving are two daughters, Eileen Homcy, M.D., Weston, Mass.; and Nancy Lefkowski, Denver, Colo.; a son, Fred Lefkowski, Dickson City; a grandson, Joseph Homcy, Weston; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Edward, Benjamin, Stanley, Chester, Carl and John Lefkowski; and two sisters, Helen Walz and Justine Hyduk.

The funeral with military honors will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Dickson City.

Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
