Anthony J. DelVecchio, 84, a lifelong Old Forge resident, died Friday in Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife of 40 years, Rosemarie Piazza DelVecchio, preceded him in death on May 8, 2009.
Born in Old Forge, son of the late Anthony and Anna DelVecchio, he was educated in the Old Forge School District. Anthony served in the United States Army Reserves and retired from Sears & Roebuck after many years of employment. He was a faithful parishioner of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, Old Forge, where he served as an usher in the past. Anthony was a passionate collector, specifically of coins, sports cards and antiques. He was enthusiastic about frequenting markets and collectible sales.
His family extends a deserved acknowledgement to Dr. Kenneth Tomczyk, Geisinger 65 Forward, and Dr. Bryan Martin and his team at Geisinger Wyoming Valley for the extraordinary level of care given to Anthony.
Surviving are his three children, Lisa Schmidt (husband, Bob) of Old Forge; Dr. Brian DelVecchio (wife, Maryellen) of Mountain Top; and Lori McNally (husband, Rick) of Taylor; five grandchildren, Riley Schmidt, Emily DelVecchio, Ashlyn McNally, Connor McNally and Ryan McNally; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Anthony was also preceded in death by his siblings, Genevieve Lloyd, Eleanor Nalevanko, Elaine Grady, Eugene DelVecchio and Anna Rose DelVecchio.
The funeral will begin Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from Ferri & Gillette Funeral Services LLC, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Prince of Peace Parish, 123 W. Grace St., Old Forge to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, pastor. Committal rites and interment will follow in Old Forge Cemetery. A public viewing will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
