Antoinette (Toni) Rose Emmett, affectionately known as Tootsie, of Jessup passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024 at the age of 92.
Antoinette was born and raised in Olyphant, Pa. and later resided in Jessup, Pa. She was a beacon of light and was very proud of her family, faith, friends and community. Toni is a graduate of Olyphant High School class of 1949, where she was co-captain of the cheerleading team. While working as a young candy striper at the Hahnemann Hospital in Scranton, staff members noticed her nurturing nature with patients and encouraged her to pursue a career as a registered nurse. Her education started at the Hahnemann Hospital and continued at Mansfield University in 1950. She returned to the Hahnemann Hospital (now Geisinger CMC) committing the next 45 years to her community as a registered nurse working in many areas including medical surgical, obstetrics and gynecology and ICU. She was always proud of her career accomplishments and continually held the highest esteem for CMC. After retiring from CMC, Toni continued her career as a nursing supervisor at Dunmore Healthcare and Green Ridge Nursing Home until her second retirement at age 80. Throughout her nursing career, Tootsie (as she is affectionately known by family) was also the family nurse. She was never too busy to give advice and care to those in need of her expertise as a nurse.
Antoinette's love extended to her daughter, Doreen Karanzas and husband, Keith (Florida); son, Frank Emmett and wife, Tammy (South Carolina); daughter, Michele Familetti and husband, James (Phoenixville); son, Mark Emmett and wife, Lisa (South Carolina); and daughter, Maribeth Aileo and husband, Anthony (Jessup); as well as 11 grandchildren, Frank (Andrea) Emmett, Elizabeth, Dominique and Nicholas Emmett, Jamie, Maya; Angeline Familetti and partner, Ross Romanello; Alyssa (Joe) Dechiario, Ryan (Becky) Emmett, Gary Nestor (Kyle Tetkoski); Anthony Aileo III and partner, Madison DeEsch; 10 great-grandchildren, Estella and Giulia Emmett, Maddox and Penelope LeVasseur, Piper Williams, Addyson and Elisabeth Dechiario, Nathan, Carter and Mackenzie Emmett; and also many close cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that will carry on her legacy of kindness and joy.
Antoinette's favorite moments were quality times spent with her growing family. Something she always looked forward to were her yearly Labor Day celebrations, where all of her family near and far would come to gather. Over the years, she has opened her home to several people in need. She always helped others to uplift and to continue their journeys.
Outside of family time, she was also very active and on the move with many friends and social groups. She frequently traveled, loved movies, dancing and attending local events. While president of the Catholic Golden Age Club, and lifelong member of Saint Patrick's Church (now Holy Cross Parish) in Olyphant, Toni oversaw community events to help her faith community thrive. She promoted love and unity in her faith always. Antoinette often remembered how, as a young girl, she watched "her" church being built!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Angeline Bianco Rose and Louie Rose; sisters, Carmella DalPino, Juline Rotell; and brother, Lou Rose.
Her children would like to thank Diane Pittsman for the love, care and friendship she gave to our mother for so many years. Also, all the medical and kitchen staff at the Mid Valley Health Care Center for how wonderful they treated our mother, and Residential Hospice who went out of their way to ensure she was comfortable and got the care she needed.
The funeral will be on Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will be private. Viewing hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St., Jessup, Pa. For online condolences or directions, visit www.margottafuneralhomes.com.

To all of Toni's family, I want to extend my deepest sympathies on your loss. Toni was one of the greats ... a wonderful wise caring person who offered me encouragement and advise many mornings when driving me to work! I pray your sorrow will be lessened knowing that Toni was truly an angel in uniform.
