Dominic Puccio Obituary

Dominic Puccio Sr., 68, died Monday at Greentree Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Waterford, Conn.

Born Nov. 28, 1941, in Peckville, he was the son of the late Thomas and Hattie Villella Pouch. After researching his family history, Dominic discovered that when his paternal grandparents arrived in the United States from Italy, their last name was changed to "Pouch." In 1997, he had his named legally changed to the original Italian version of "Puccio."

A graduate of Blakely High School and the University of Scranton, Dominic was employed for 39 years as an electrical engineer at Electric Boat, retiring in 2004.

Dominic loved traveling, sports, family and especially his Italian heritage. He always had a gleam in his eye and a warm smile. He never neglected to say he loved us. He will be sadly missed by those who knew him.

The family would like to thank the Adams Group at Morgan Stanley, New London, Conn., for all their help and sound advice, and the nursing staff at Greentree Manor for their kindness.

He is survived by two sons, Dominic Puccio Jr. and wife, Gilda, Waterford; and Edward Puccio and wife, Jennifer, San Francisco; a daughter, Nicole Sanchez and husband, Sam, Mystic, Conn.; three grandchildren, Jacqueline and Alyse Puccio, Waterford, and Sammy Sanchez, Mystic; a sister, Harriet Aniska, Jessup; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be Feb. 12 at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Willow Street, Peckville. Donations may be made to Hospice Southeastern Connecticut, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360.

The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London, is entrusted with the arrangements; 860-443-1871. Visit www.neilanfuneralhome.com to send an online condolence or to view a video tribute.

I'm soo sorry for your loss. Your father was a caring, loving man who always had a smile on his face! He will be greatly missed!! There never was a time that I saw him that he failed to give me a great big bear hug, and take time to listen to what was going on in my life. So many memories growing up and hanging out at his house in the summer swimming in the pool, always careful to not make a mess that he would have to clean lolol!! And I'll always think of him when I eat a perogi...without him I probably still wouldn't know what they are!! RIP Mr. Puccio you will be missed!!
