John M. (Jack) Saville, 88, a resident of Scranton, died Saturday in Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. His wife of 63 years, the former Betty Lou Wagner, died in 2022.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Sheldon and Mary Lavelle Saville. He was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish and was a graduate of Scranton Central High School. He was very proud of being a United States Marine, serving his country. He started his career with the United States Postal Service in 1966 in Dover, N.J. He transferred to Scranton the same year and in 1968, he was appointed secretary/treasurer of Branch 17, Scranton. The same year he was appointed recording secretary/treasurer and became a member of the board of directors of the credit union. Later, he was appointed director of retirees. In all he served 53 years as a union official. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Marine Corps League, NRA, South Side Bachelors Club and the Factoryville Sportsman Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Surviving are his son, Michael Saville and wife Suzanne, Auburndale, Fla.; his daughter, Mari Ross and husband, Joseph, Scranton; grandchildren, Tyler (Nia), Jordan (Danielle), Samantha (Brandon), all of Florida; Amanda and Alison, Scranton; great-grandchildren, Madalena, Emery, Jack and Sofia; two sisters, Betty Lee Kennedy, South Carolina; and Agnes Santasiero, Connecticut; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., to be celebrated by Rev. Jonathan Kuhar, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m.
