Judith Marichak Obituary

Judith "Judy" M. Laboranti Marichak, of Honesdale and formerly of Scranton died Wednesday at Mercy Hospice. She was the widow of Andrew "Hammer" Marichak, who died July 22, 2005.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Anthony and Jennie Sylvester Laboranti and Mary Burke Laboranti, she was a member of St. Paul's Church. Judy was educated in Scranton public schools and graduated from West Scranton High School. She took pride in her years working with her father and brother at the Normandi, where she made many lifelong friends and was like a second mother to many. She was a true friend to all and was always, there no matter what, lending a helping hand.

She enjoyed listening to music; watching baseball, football, game shows and movies; reading; doing crossword puzzles; playing pinochle and trivia games; and making people laugh. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, brothers and sister. Judy was very proud and loved her children very much. She taught them what it is to love, and have great respect, kindness and friendship, and to have family. Often she said her greatest accomplishments were her six children and making it to her 50th wedding anniversary. She loved and adored her grandchildren as they brought great enjoyment and pleasure.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be remembered for her love, kindness, devotion, sense of humor and strength.

The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice, Dr. Paul Remick and Dr. Charles Braz for their kind and compassionate care for Judy.

Surviving are three daughters, Judy Kich and husband, David, Scranton; Mary Marichak, Honesdale; and Jean Pethick and husband Kevin of Scranton; three sons, Andrew Marichak; John Marichak and wife, Kelly; Michael Marichak and wife, Jennifer, all of Scranton; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas Kich, Megan Pethick, Alison Kich, Michael Marichak, Kayla Pethick, Rachel Marichak, Johnny Marichak, Alexis Marichak, Sarah Pethick and Natalie Marichak; two sisters, Jean Stanko and Margaret Dougherty and husband, Joseph, both of Scranton; four brothers, John Laboranti, Scranton; Anthony Laboranti and wife, Carol, Moscow; Frank Laboranti and wife, Mary Ellen, Moscow; and Joseph Laboranti and wife, Lynn, Scranton; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Marichak and Lucille Marichak; a brother-in-law, Robert Marichak, all of Dunmore; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral will be Saturday at 9 a.m. from the McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1401 Capouse Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Paul's Church, Penn Avenue. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Friends may call Friday, 3 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hill Street, Jessup; or Mercy Hospice, 746 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.
