Mildred "Millie" Dunda, 91, of Dunmore, passed away Sunday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph, in 2004.
Born in Pittston, daughter of the late John and Julia Ambrutis Dolinish, she was a graduate of Pittston High School and Pittston School of Nursing. She was a dedicated registered nurse who worked in many hospitals throughout the years along with private duty assignments.
Millie was a parishioner of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church in Dunmore. She and her husband were founding members of Sherwood Park in Dunmore where she served as vice president of their Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering for many years at their annual picnics. Millie also enjoyed lottery tickets, casino trips and vacationing with her daughters. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and nurse. She especially loved spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her seven children, George, John, Julie; Joseph and wife, Jennifer; Karl and fiancée, Kristy Monahan; Paul and companion, Christina Schultz; and Susan Brace and husband, Christopher; 12 grandchildren, Natasha Dunda and husband, Matthew Deckman; Joseph Dunda and wife, Kaleena; Larisa, Nicolas, Benjamin, Joseph, Milly and Sawyer Dunda, Lucy Monahan, Blake Schultz, Elizabeth and Megan Brace; four great-grandchildren, Matilda and James Talarico, Andie and Elliott Deckman. She also leaves behind a beloved sister, Mary Close and her husband, Courtney; two sisters-in-law, Marion Coyer and Rose Dunda; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Edward Dolinish; and two sisters, Irene Juba and Aldona Wright.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart who provided the kind and compassionate care which she truly deserved.
The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with an Office of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, East Drinker Street, Dunmore. Interment, St. Michael's Cemetery, Dunmore. Friends are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, 511 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, PA 18512; or Sherwood Youth Association, P.O. Box 205, Dunmore, PA 18512.
