Paul Ackland

Paul Ackland, 84, of Waverly, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

He was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Scranton, Pa., the son of Fred and Pearl Ord Ackland. Paul was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1946. He attended Keystone Junior College (1946-48) and Penn State University (1948-50). He worked for Bendix Corp. from 1952-56 and was then employed by IBM from 1956 until his retirement in 1984.

Paul married Kay J. Christian on March 3, 1951, and they moved to Waverly, N.Y., in 1957. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His interests included camping, square dancing with the Penny Promenaders Square Dance Club and reading. Following his retirement, Paul and his wife also looked forward to spending several winter months each year in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church.

Paul was predeceased by his wife, Kay Ackland; his sister-in-law, Gail Johnson; and his brothers-in-law, Gerald Johnson and Bill Burgess.

He is survived by his children, Lorraine Ann Scrivener, David Paul Ackland and Lynda Kay Lynch, all of Waverly, N.Y.; his grandsons, Kyle Christian Ackland and his fiancee, Hope Johnston, of Sayre, Pa.; Samuel David Ackland and his wife, Megan, of Watertown, N.Y.; Shawn Paul Scrivener and his wife, Kari, of Great Falls, Mont.; Jeffrey Paul Lynch and Charles Lynch, both of Waverly, N.Y.; his sister-in-law, Gwen Christian Burgess and her long-time companion, Brian Van Auken; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins and families.

Funeral services will be held today, May 8, at 10 a.m. at the Luckner Funeral Home, 449 Park Ave., Waverly. Pastor Anne Canfield of the Waverly United Methodist Church will officiate.

Interment will be in Tioga Point Cemetery.
