Theodore J. Karmilovich Sr., 83, of Galloway, N.J., passed away on Aug. 5, 2022, at home.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania (Hanover Twp.) on Nov. 1, 1938, to Veronica and Jacob Karmilovich, the ninth child in a family of 13 children. He left this area after finishing high school and subsequently resided in New Jersey. He was employed by Exxon Research & Engineering Co. in Linden, N.J., and eventually became a technologist involved in automotive emissions and gasoline quality. He was involved in the early establishment of vehicle emissions testing procedures, both federal and state-related. He spent 38 years with Exxon Research in its engine and vehicle testing facilities and was involved in gasoline quality and emissions testing throughout the U.S. with the federal government and automotive companies. In his early youth, he was involved in baseball at various levels of play, from little league, high school and an industrial league while with Exxon Research. He had also been the batboy for the Wilkes-Barre Barons of the Eastern League in the early 1950s.
Ted married Regina (Jean) Kuhl in 1958 and they ultimately were the parents of seven children (six boys and one girl), Ted Jr., David, Michael, Douglas, Christopher, Stephen and Jennifer. Ted and Jean and the family resided in Howell, N.J., for 36 years, where they were both active in the parish of St. Veronica's. They both retired to Galloway, N.J., after leaving Howell. During their retirement, they became active in the parish of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Absecon, N.J. He enjoyed playing tennis, pinochle and traveling. Ted was predeceased by Regina in 2008.
Ted will be laid to rest, alongside Jean, in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Twp., Pa. Visitation will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Ted's memory.
