 Age 89, died Friday, July 4, 2012 in the care of his family at his son's home in Croswell.

He was born November 19, 1924 in Newport, Michigan, son of the late Edward and Theresa (Kennedy) O'Mara.  He and Patricia L. Hines were married on October 8, 1949 in Southfield.  She died on November 20, 1996.

Dan was a 25 year member of the Detroit Police Dept.  Upon retiring in 1975 he took up farming the family farm with his beloved wife and 14 children.  Dan was a proud member of the Democrat Party and a former member of the Sanilac Co. Board of Canvassers.  He and his family are long time parishioners of St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Sanilac

Surviving are sons Daniel P., Michael R., Edward T., Hugh W., John P., Paul J., Peter R. and Martin T.; daughters Kathleen A. Hulett, Sheila A. McEachin, Patricia T. Lyden, Maureen R. Cundall and Virginia M. O'Mara;  42 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; and a sister Patricia O'Mara.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Eileen Portice and sisters Mary Maher, JoAnn Teal,Virginia and Kathleen O'Mara.

Dan's humor, opinion and kitchen table conversation will be greatly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday at Ave Maria Parish- St. Mary Cahtolic Church, Port Sanilac.  The Rev. Donald Eppenbrock will officiate.  Burial will be in the Old St. Mary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Carsonville from 2 to 8 P.M. Monday and at Church from 10 to 11 A.M. Tuesday.  Vigil service will be at 7 P.M.
