Benjamin Tillman Obituary

BURLINGTON - Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Tillman, 91, of 1880 Brookwood Ave., Apt. 210, Burlington, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at his residence.
A native of Alamance County, he was a 1935 graduate of Burlington High School. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years; then was employed with H&R Block and McClure Funeral Service where he was known as "Uncle Ben."
He was a U.S. Army Tech Sgt. during World War II, where he served in Burma.
Survivors include his daughter, Carol Forrester and husband Vance "Butch", of Burlington, N.C.; son, Frank Tillman and wife Doris, of Williamsburg, Va.; grandchildren, Benjamin W. Tillman of Towson, Md., Beth Armstrong and husband Lamar of Greensboro, N.C., Sarah Forrester of Burlington, N.C.; sister, Flossie T. Steele of Franconia, N.H.; several beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George H. and Dallie J. Tillman; wife, Ruth J. Tillman; brother, James W. Tillman; sisters, Mozelle T. Harris and Minnie T. Love.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Larry Redding and the Rev. Bob Stephenson. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 until 8 Friday evening and at other times at the residence of Carol Forrester, 2610 Clarendon Road, Burlington.
Memorials may be made to the Capital Improvement Fund at Glen Hope Baptist Church, 911 North Avenue, Burlington, N.C. 27217.
