William Whitney Obituary
Born in New London, Conn., he was the son of the late George and Cecile Whitney.
William worked in Overhaul Design with Electric Boat for 38 years until his retirement. A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, he was also a longtime communicant, lector and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Victory Church. He was a former member of the Groton Elks.
Bill was a very generous and giving man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered most as a devoted husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, he will be dearly missed by his son, William "Billy" Whitney, Jr., his daughter, Michelle Algiere and her husband, John, and grandson, Benjamin Algiere, all of Ashaway. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Whitney Algiere.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Aug. 31 from 5-7 p.m. at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church, 69 Main St., Ashaway on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. There is no procession to the church from the funeral home. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 So. County Trail, Exeter at 12 noon.
