Fredrick Bliss Obituary

VERNON - Fredrick W. "Fred" Bliss, 64, of Glenshane Way in Ormond Beach, Fla., a former resident of Sartwell Road in Vernon, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon, April 4, 2011, in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Fred was born in Holyoke, Mass., on Jan. 14, 1947, the son of Wilbur and Roberta (Piquette) Bliss. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro and Hinsdale, N.H., graduating from Hinsdale High School, class of 1965.

Fred served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and upon his honorable discharge from active service he returned home to Hinsdale.

At the time of his death he was owner/manager with his wife of Bliss Tech LLC, a computer consulting business based in Ormond Beach. He was also employed by Fibermark Inc. of Brattleboro, joining the company when it was owned by Boise Cascade. Previously he had worked for the former Book Press in Brattleboro.

While residing in the Brattleboro area he was active with the Brattleboro Hockey Association, where he served as a coach, referee and board member.

Of his leisure time activities, he enjoyed sailing, Formula One racing, motorcycles, golfing and time shared with his family. During his earlier years he was active with the ski jumping program in the greater Brattleboro area.

A faithful and devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, his life centered around his family.

He was first married to Cindy Phillips and later married LuAnne Clink, in Granville, Mass., on Oct. 12, 1985.

Besides his loving wife of 25 years he leaves three sons, Derek Bliss and wife Melissa, of Hinsdale, Shawn Bliss, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Trevor Bliss, of Ormond Beach; his mother, Roberta, of Barre; one sister, Debbi McNicholas, also of Barre; and two grandsons, Damian and Isaiah.

Additionally he is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father and a brother, Mark Bliss.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at noon at Centre Congregational Church with the Rev. Carra Bradt, pastor, officiating. A reception and time of fellowship will follow the services to be held in the church parlor. Burial with full military honors will take place in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center at a later date.

Friends are invited to a calling hour at the church Saturday morning from 11 a.m. until the start of the services.

Memorial contributions in Fred's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
