Lucette Witty Obituary

WITTY, Lucette Clementine Biver, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 5, 2021. Born in Phoebus (Hampton), Va., Lucette attended St. Mary Star of the Sea parochial school and St. Vincent Catholic High School, where she later coached girls' basketball. On September 30, 1944 she married the one and only love of her life, Ed Witty. Together they built their forever home in Newport News and raised their four children, Tom, Mike, LuAnn and Rick.

Ed and Lucette were founding members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, where they remained active members, serving on numerous committees and as Eucharistic ministers. Lucette shared her beautiful soprano voice in the church choir, which Ed directed. Lucette was an avid bridge player, attaining the rank of Gold Life Master. She played tennis, golf and enjoyed bowling, but her passion was gardening. Never seen without make-up, manicure and perfect hair, neighbors would see her on any given day tending her yard, dressed as if she were attending a garden party.

With all of her accomplishments, Lucette's greatest joy was her family. Her legacy to her four children, 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren was her strong faith in God and her unwavering love and support.

Lucette was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Edward Witty; her parents, Clement Biver and Marie Piquet Biver; her son, Thomas Edward Witty Jr.; son-in-law, James Klein; and sisters, Muguette Rovansek and Yolanda Miller. She is survived by her sons, Michael Biver Witty (Pat), Richard Alan Witty (Madeline); daughter, Lucette Ann Klein; daughter-in-law, Catherine (Thomas Edward Witty Jr.); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucette will be missed by everyone who was blessed to know her. Thank you, Mom, for teaching us how to love.

A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church by Rev. John Bosco Walugembe and Deacon Dan Johnson. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5 to 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Weymouth Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Mary Immaculate Hospital. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
