Paul Anderson Obituary

ANDERSON, Paul Nelson, 77, of Richmond, Virginia passed away suddenly on Monday, March 25, 2024. He was born on March 24, 1947 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Davidson Anderson, his father, John Anderson, and his brother, Carl Anderson (Judith). Paul is survived by his wife of 55 years, Delphine Wood Anderson, and his children Sarah Anderson and Jennifer Anderson Nothstine (Jack), and his grandchildren, Gwyneth Nothstine and Barrett Nothstine. He is also survived by his brother John F. Anderson and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Paul faithfully served the citizens of the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia with distinction in the United States Army, the Henrico Police Department, and the Office of the Attorney General from 1966 to 2013. Paul enlisted in the United States Army in November of 1966. While stationed in An Khe and Da Nang, Vietnam, he served as a Production Control Clerk assigned to the 610th Transportation Company. Upon leaving the military, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Paul joined the Henrico Police Department in February of 1973. In 1975, Paul was named the Division's Assistant Training Officer and helped establish the Department's first Training Academy. Paul was one of the first investigators hired in the newly created Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in 1982 and was promoted to Chief Investigator in July of 1999, and then to Deputy Director of Investigations and Audit in 2005. Paul was assigned to investigate, supervise, and manage the investigation of hundreds of healthcare fraud cases. His skillful efforts helped secure over $1.8 billion in recoveries to the Virginia and federal government healthcare programs. Paul was a key member of the National Association of Medicaid Fraud Control Unit's Training Committee and, over his 30-year career, trained thousands of Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigators across the country. Paul worked with honor and distinction during his long tenure with the MFCU and the Attorney General's Office. His dedication to his work helped to better the lives of Virginia's most vulnerable citizens as he worked hard to protect them. Above all, he was a devoted and loving family man, neighbor, and friend.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 1st from 5 to 8 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. Richmond, VA. The funeral will take place at Woody Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2nd. Paul was a wonderful person. We both worked at the Virginia Attorney General`s office for many years and I was consistently impressed with Paul -both with his work performance at our office and his friendly disposition. Paul always had a smile and a happy disposition. I miss him very much.

Dell and family - Nancy and I were in shock when we heard of the sudden passing of Paul. Even though many miles separated us, Paul and I talked a lot and shared numerous memories. He meant the world to me; from listening to his Viet Nam stories, his political opinions and telling me about his family who he loved and adored. A real comedian who could make everyone laugh! I´ll never forget and love you buddy
