Shirley Jane Haire Whitaker

WHITAKER, Shirley Jane Haire, of Richmond, Va., departed this life on Saturday, March 27, 2021. She was 91 years old. Born October 7, 1929, in Smicksburg, Pa., she grew up in Punxatawney, Pa. Shirley served many others as a nurse. She is survived by her sister, Ginger; children, Emmett II, Marcia, Alana, Diana and Ruth; seven grandchildren, Sean, Shannon, Emmett III, Elizabeth, Chloe, Kyle and Madeline; four great-grandchildren, Sean Preston, Olivia, Sawyer and Leo. Shirley never met a stranger; her friends adored her, and she was a second Mom to many. She was known for her hugs, her intellect and outgoing personality. Along with her big family, she treasured her Yorkies, Barney, Lion and Bella. Shirley's Celebration of Life will take place June 23, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Richmond, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlain, S.D. or Trinity Lutheran Church, Richmond, Va.
