William "Bill" Pierce Bigger Jr.

Mr. Bigger, 82, of Midlothian, Va. passed away on June 13, 2024.

He is survived by his partner and former wife, Karen Youmans Bigger; brother, Wesley (Ruth Ann); two sons, Brad (Woody), and Bruce (Tami); grandson, Will; granddaughters, Carly and Natalie; and the mother of his sons, Betty Bigger. He is also survived by Karen's son, Scott Youmans (Janna); their children, Alex, Gavyn, and Edie; plus nephews and nieces and their families and many dear friends.

Bill graduated from Maury High School and Old Dominion College where he played basketball and baseball. A college baseball highlight was winning the NCAA Div II championship in 1964 that was played in Yankee Stadium. College was interrupted briefly while he served in the Army and overseas in France. Baseball was his love, even trying out professionally before starting his career in accounting. He retired from SCHEV (State Council of Higher Education for Virginia) as an Account Manager. A self-taught tennis player, he played very well for years and always enjoyed the competition. Bill also played golf at Brandermill Country Club but had a hard time overcoming his baseball swing.

His family and friends referred to Bill as the "miracle man" because of coming back from a severe setback better than ever. The new Bill enjoyed life to the fullest. Bill was an avid reader and enthusiastically recommended books to family and friends. In retirement, he was an expert Fantasy Baseball guru along with his close friend Dan Hix.

Family and friends can gather to wish him farewell and remember the man we loved. Services will be at Bliley's Funeral Home on Hull Street near Chippenham on Saturday, July 13th at 2 p.m. All are welcome.
