William Jefferson Wallace Jr.

William Wallace Obituary

William Jefferson Wallace Jr. of Hampstead, died Saturday, October 25, 2003 at the age of 93, after a brief illness. Mr. Wallace attended McGuire School, St. Christopher’s School and Episcopal High School, and graduated from the University of Virginia as a Phi Kap, with a degree in architecture and practiced in Richmond and New York. After his studies, he was a member of the Richmond Blues, and during World War II, he served in the 29th Division of the U.S. Army, and as a White House Aide under President Roosevelt, and as a captain in Army intelligence at the Pentagon. After the war, he farmed at Hampstead, and was an active member of the community, including serving on the New Kent County School Board, and as trustee and vestry member at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Mr. Wallace was a member Emeritus of The Richmond German. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phoebe Marion; two sons, William J. III and Reginald F.; two daughters, Harriet Wallace Clay and Marion Wallace Moore; and six grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Central Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., Tuesday, October 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, New Kent County. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Quinton Vol. Fire and EMS Dept., P.O. Box 172, Quinton, Va. 23141.
