James L. Tell Jr.

1942 - 2018

Dec. 25, 1942 - June 12, 2018 Fairfield James L. Tell, Jr., 75, passed away on June 12, at Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center. James was born on Dec. 25, 1942 in San Diego, to James and Marian Tell; and was raised in Vallejo, where he attended both Vallejo and Hogan High. James began working with his father at Tell Rentals, Inc. in 1973, and assumed ownership until the business closed in 2015. During his time in this role James gave back to his community, was a charter member of the Vallejo Lions Club and a member of the Vallejo Rotary Club. On July 6, 1974 he married Sandra R. Erwin in Albany, and in 1978 they moved to Fairfield, where he resided for the remainder of his life. James enjoyed being an outdoorsman with friends and family. His true love however, was coaching youth baseball, which he did from 1984 to 1990 at Suisun American LL, and with the Fairfield Expos organization from 1991 until his retirement in 2016. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jamie Pruett and Sarah Tell; one son, Robert Tell; five grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Edelmen, and one brother, Lacy Tell. He is preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, July 9, at Billy Yarbrough Field at Laurel Creek Community Park.
