Charlie "Big Steve" Berger passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022. A devoted husband, dedicated father and loving grandfather, Charlie was a retired small business owner that called Virginia Beach home for nearly 28 years.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Roberta Evans Berger; his children, Charles Berger and wife Nicole Berger, Jamie Perez and husband Roberto Perez and Kimberly Berger-Duggins; and his eight adoring grandchildren, Otis, Lillian, Gabriela, Montana, Maya, Oliver, Charlie and Misha. He is also survived by his brother, William Berger, and his sister Joan Macarelli. He is preceded in death by his father Albert W. Berger; his mother, Eleanor C. Muth Berger and his sister, Elizabeth Emmert.
Charlie was born in Wilkes-Barre on June 2, 1951, and was married to the love of his life, Roberta, on June 9, 1979. Charlie and Roberta worked and lived in Pennsylvania until moving to Virginia Beach in the summer of 1994 with their three amazing children. Charlie was a dedicated father and was promoted to the title of grandfather in 2009, his most honored role. Charlie was present to welcome all eight of his beloved grandchildren as they became the highlight of his life and lovingly titled him "Lil Pop."
Charlie was welcoming, kind and loving. He was nicknamed the "Governor" of his local neighborhood and never met a soul he couldn't talk to. He was generous with his time, thoughtful with his words and loving with his actions. He made the world a better place for those that knew and loved him. His presence on this earth will greatly be missed.
