Mary Bernadette Hogan

M. Bernadette Hogan, 87, of West Pittston, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in Mercy Center, Dallas.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 13, 1921, she was a daughter of the late John MacDonald and Margaret McLaughlin MacDonald.
She was a graduate of Coughlin High School, and obtained her nursing degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Wilkes-Barre. Bernadette also obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Misericordia College; Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master’s Degree in Guidance from the University of Scranton.
She was a professor at Misericordia College, Dallas. She was a nurse in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Hogan; sisters, Margaret MacDonald and Ann MacDonald.
Surviving are sons, Joseph Hogan, N.Y., John Hogan, Forty Fort; daughters, Dr. Bernadette Hogan, N.Y., Margaret Ann Connolly, Arizona, Marie Barron, N.Y., Patricia Whaley, West Pittston; Michele Duffy, N.J., Helene Dougherty, Hershey; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 802 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Interment, parish cemetery. Friends may call Friday, April 17, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
