Foster Eleanor Obituary

Eleanor Foster

Eleanor Foster, 92, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 2. She was born in Stark County, Ohio, on February 24, 1921, to Nellie (Booth) and Daniel Jones and lived there most of her life. She was a graduate of Navarre High School and Canton Actual Business College. In 1946 she married Varner "Pink" Foster, and they raised their three daughters across the street from her parents' home. Eleanor was an exceptional mother, cook, and housekeeper as well as an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She loved the outdoors and was never happier than when she was in her vegetable or flower garden. She even loved weeding! In 1960 she made the decision to go to work outside of her home in order to enable her daughters to attend college. She worked as a secretary to the General Manager of WTIG, a local radio station, as a bookkeeper, and finally, as the clerk for the Fairless Local School Board. In later years she became an avid cross-stitcher and bird watcher. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, and solving word puzzles. Bronwyn, her Welsh corgi, was her constant companion until her death in 2012.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her sister, Marian McDonald; and her brother, Donald Jones.

She is survived by her daughters, Sue Cieslak (Jim), Sara Ramsay (the late Bruce), and Emily Foster; grandsons, Matthew Ramsay (Lori) and Morgan Ramsay (Leslie); great-granddaughter Mia Eleanor; sister-in-law, Dorothy Jones; nephews Robert McDonald (Charlotte), Richard McDonald (Karen Shepherd), Dan Jones (Mary), and John Jones; and nieces, Kathie Courtney (Dick), Mary Helfrich (Stan), Marged Jones Tormasi (Richard), Diane Krens (Frank), and Christine Valentine (CH). She will be missed by many friends in Ohio, Florida, and Clarksville, Tennessee.

Eleanor was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Navarre, Ohio, for many years, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Women's Guild and the church's quilting group. At her death, she was a member of Madison Street United Methodist Church and the Morgan Sunday School class.

A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held on Saturday, December 14, at 2 p.m. at Madison Street United Methodist Church. At a later date, a Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Navarre, Ohio.

Interment will be at Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre.

Aunt Eleanor made a sound when she was tickled about something she thought was cute. Many times it was a response to her pets' actions. I make that sound now. And, I think of her often. She was an absolutely lovely lady- so warm and caring. She made the world seem way less awful than it is.

I sure will miss you Auntie El! You were always so good to me and my family. That was just your way. I'll miss our talks. You and Uncle Pink raised a fine family and were a great influence on others.
