Bryan Martin Obituary

Martin, Bryan
APOPKA, Fla. - Bryan William Martin, 47 of Apopka, Fla. passed away on September 12, 2023, at the Orlando Regional Medical Center after suffering a brain aneurysm.
Bryan was born in Niskayuna on March 25, 1976. He was the son of William and Paula Martin of Ballston Spa. Bryan grew up in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake community where he attended school, then transferred to Saratoga Spring High School, graduating in 1994. He graduated from Skidmore College in 1998, with a degree in business administration.
Bryan married Mandy Parent on November 17, 2007. They enjoyed their 16 years together residing in the Altamonte Springs and Apopka area of Florida.
Bryan was an athlete his entire life. He participated in football, basketball, baseball and golf in high school, as well as golf at Skidmore College. Bryan was a well-known golfer. He became obsessed with golf at the age of 10, after recording his first hole-in-one at the Galway Golf Course in May of 1986. He went on to win many local Junior golf tournaments, representing Ballston Spa Country Club, where he was the Junior Club champion and the two-time men's champion. He also played in the NYSGA junior tournament, getting to the semi-finals twice. He played on the Taylor Made-Philadelphia PGA Junior Tour, AJGA tournaments and the Junior Ping Tour.
Bryan played at Saratoga Springs High School winning all but one individual match. He was the Suburban Council champion, the Section 2 champion and the NYSPHSAA State champion. Bryan competed in the New York State Men's Amateur and was the quarter-finalist in 1996 and semi-finalist in 1997.
At Skidmore College, he won nine of 51 tournaments and captained the Thoroughbreds twice. He was selected as the GolfWeek Collegiate Division 3 Freshman of the Year. He went on to become a four-time Division 3 All-American and was the runner-up at the ECAC Tournament two times. He was the team MVP in 1997 and 1998 and was named Skidmore Athlete of the Year in 1998.
Bryan was one of eight players selected to represent the USA versus Japan in the Nippon Games in Tokyo in 1998, and the only player from Division 3. Bryan played in the U.S. Amateur in 1995 and 1996. He was the medalist in The Boston Qualifier in 1995. In 1996, at Pumpkin Ridge GC in North Plains (Portland) Oregon, he was paired with Tiger Woods in the two medal play rounds. He won the 1996 Passaconaway Collegiate Open on the King Cobra Collegiate Players Tour as well as the 1997 Rochester Country Club Invitational. Bryan was inducted into the Skidmore Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
Bryan went on to PGA "Q" school, and played in many PGA Tour qualifiers and mini-tours in Florida. He was employed with GOLFPAC for 14 years before being hired as the head professional at Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.
Bryan will be remembered by his wife, his parents, his sister, Jan Zoller (Michael), and their children, Keegan, Mackenzie, Brinley and Blaine. He will also be remembered by his "best man" Chris Bleau and his lifelong childhood friends, Kurt Palmer and Curt Mason along with many relatives and friends.
There will be no calling hours. Instead, there will be a celebration of life in Bryan's honor at the Ballston Spa Country Club on Saturday, October 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Bryan W. Martin Scholarship, P.O. Box 2902, Malta, NY, 12020 or through Venmo at @bryanwmartinscholarship.

I worked with Bryan for 16 years and played golf with him plenty of times. I can remember asking him for his opinion about something and coming up with a response that I would go with over everyone else. His approach to golf or anything else was way different than anyone I knew. His thinking outside of the box was brilliant. I will miss him. God Bless.

I was a teammate of Bryan's at Skidmore. I will always remember meeting Bryan at the soup kitchen in downtown Saratoga. I remember Bryan's smooth, melodious voice, especially when he would talk about his putter "The Fat Lady Swings." I send my deepest condolences. Aaron Berthiaume
