Gilbert Laware Obituary

Laware, Gilbert "Gil"
GRANGER, Ind. - Gilbert "Gil" Laware, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on February 22, 2023, surrounded by his family.
He was born to Irene and Errick Laware on June 18, 1942, in Waterford (Troy). Gil graduated from LaSalle Institute in 1960, Siena College in Loudonville in 1964, and obtained his master's degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J. in 1968, and Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y. in 1974. On June 28, 1969, he married Jeannine (St. Pierre) Laware (now deceased) in the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Cohoes. They lived in Westchester County for several years and then moved to Trumbull, Conn., where their son Christopher and daughter Jennifer were born.
Gil enjoyed learning, teaching, and working for the IBM Corporation for 30 years. IBM was the data processing industry leader giving him opportunities to experience a variety of jobs. He held positions in sales administration, programming, project management, executive strategic management, data architecture, management, and manufacturing consulting. As an adjunct professor, he taught at Iona College's Master's program in the Hagan School of Business for more than 10 years. He moved to the South Bend area when he joined the Whirlpool Corporation as the manager of Databases and Data Warehousing. Leaving Whirlpool several years later, he joined Fujitsu Consulting, working on a variety of corporate projects. He left consulting to become an associate professor at Purdue University teaching courses in business systems technology on the South Bend campus. He also taught courses overseas in Dubai, UAE in Business Architecture and Strategy, Information Technology Strategy, and IT - business management strategic alignment. He started multiple consulting companies, the latest being Information By Design, LLC. As an innovator, he helped develop Wizsm - an integrated management software platform.
He enjoyed coaching and playing hockey into his late 1970s. Every week in winter, he drove his grandsons, Matthew and Drew, to their Irish Youth Hockey League (IYHL) practices and games. He enjoyed those rides to the rink, talking about hockey and everything else the boys were into. He also loved hearing stories from his granddaughter Emily about her horse-riding adventures.
His immediate family members are his daughter, Jennifer; his son, Christopher and daughter-in-law, Rachelle; his grandkids, Emily, Matthew, and Drew; and his sister, Renette (Charles) Vincelette of Warminster, Pa.

February 26, 2023

Gil was a Waterford childhood classmate, Siena College classmate and "good buddy".
Always ready for hockey at Surgarloaf Pond, baseball at Garret Field or getting his Dad´s old Packard for date night with girls-Gil worked hard at everything he did.
May my Dear Friend now rest in peace with his Dear Wife Jeannine. Truly a life well lived!
